So far this year, we’ve introduced you to Vegan Beauty, Self Love, Celebrating Women, Renew and now Hydration. We’ve got the next 7 themes in the bag for the rest of 2022 and we’re so excited to explore them with you.
Our May Box theme was actually supposed to be Fruit themed. It was going to be filled with products that had fruity scents in brightly coloured packaging. While this would be a treat to the senses, at the last minute we decided to go with a different direction.
Looking back at the reviews, we realised that a key component of what makes The Indy Box unique is that we bring you high quality, full sized, effective products that enrich your beauty routine. So, we’re filling the May Box with even more effective skincare to make a difference.
Our April Renew theme went down a treat - our customers were excited to find products to discover that serve a purpose. I ran a poll on Instagram and discovered that a main concern of our audience is actually dry and dehydrated skin.
Are you Team Dry or Team Dehydrated?
If we were going by definition, you’d think that dry and dehydrated went hand in hand. There are actually some huge differences.
Did you know that if you’re thinking that your skincare isn’t working, it’s probably because you’re not using the correct skincare for you?
In other words, you could be using moisturisers targeted for dry skin - but you’ve actually got dehydrated skin.
We did a post about this on Instagram last week and lots of you were surprised to hear that you’d mis-diagnosed your skin type. So hopefully, by the end of this post you’ll be able to get the most out of your skincare, with our help.
Do you have dry skin?
Dry skin is what we call a skin type - similar to oily or combination skin. You can’t actually change skin types. It just means that your skin doesn’t produce as much oil as it should.
If you’ve got dry skin, you’ll often find that your skin will be itchy, flaky and red.
As we grow older, our skin produces less moisture and oil - meaning that skin goes drier over the years anyway. This could become a bit of a problem for those who have naturally dry skin.
Whilst you can’t change your skin type, you can use products to curb the dry skin issues. As your skin doesn’t produce enough oil, this is exactly what you need!
Something that I can’t stress enough, is if you have acne prone skin - still opt for oils. I was always very scared of oils, as someone who has extremely acne prone skin. However, I’ve found oils that have helped get my acne in line, make my skin radiant and smooth. An oil I really recommend for acne-prone skin is Gaia & Vie Clarity Oil, which was featured in last year’s August box.
Even if you have oily skin - please don’t sleep on the oil.
Is your skin dehydrated?
Dehydrated skin differs from dry skin in the fact that it’s a skin condition. This means it’s treatable and temporary. Dehydration of the skin doesn't work too differently to dehydration of the body. Your skin just needs a good drink. It’s thirsty!
If you’ve got dehydrated skin, it will be dull, rough and tight. This is often caused by external factors including:
- Weather changes
- Central heating and air conditioning
- Overly hot water
- Not drinking enough water
It’s pretty straight forward to correct dehydrated skin. Making sure you’re drinking enough water is important.
You can also look out for products containing humectants, like Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is a perfect ingredient for everybody to incorporate into their skincare routines, but it’ll particularly benefit those who want to rehydrate their skin, or have concerns with ageing skin.
Hyaluronic Acid will plump the skin, fill crease and deliver a major dose of hydration.
You’ll find that our May Box is bursting with products containing humectant ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid. Since using the products that are in our May Box, my skin has seen a real difference. My skin is actually of the oily skin type, but it was definitely dehydrated. After using hydrating skincare products and making sure I’m drinking enough water, I’ve seen a real difference in my skin.
Don’t forget, even if you have dry skin - your skin can also be dehydrated. So it’s always worth making sure you’re drinking enough and using products containing hydrating ingredients.
We’re about to share our favourite skincare routine for an at-home facial, for when you’re needing to rehydrate your skin and it’ll be going straight to your mailbox. All you have to do is sign up to our mailing list, take some time out for yourself and get ready to rehydrate your skin with us.
Your skin will thank you later.
